A rare New York evening with stars of Indian Classical Music...

Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, India's beloved vocalist and pioneer musical educator, will be accompanied in concert by maestro Yogesh Samsi on Tabla, Ajay Joglekar on Harmonium, Brajeswar Mukherjee on Tanpura/Vocal Support.

On the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of India's Independence at Carnegie Hall, The New York Times stated that "Ajoy Chakrabarty held a rare summit meeting."  The Boston Globe states,"Ajoy Chakrabarty has become the principal transmitter of the style of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan." According to The Hindu, "Ajoy Chakrabarty is something of a miracle of natural gifts and tireless self-culture."

He has been called the "Pavarotti of India" by adoring fans and has received international acclaim for his versatile performances.  He is the first Indian classical vocalist to be invited by the government of Pakistan to perform in Pakistan.  Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty has been awarded many prestigious honors in India and abroad, including many for film songs.  His 1st New York concert after 3 years will also present a short video screening from the upcoming movie: JHAPTAL A Documentary In Ten Beats (2010) by director Sandi Higgins, described as a love letter to Indian Music and a battle cry for greater support of the traditional Arts. The documentary shares a personal and panoramic experience of Indian Classical Music as an international system of musical education. The short excerpts to be screened on June 5th offer a special glimpse into the artistic approach and music principles of the featured concert artist in the context of his own music institution, Shrutinandan, in Kolkata, India.
